Thriller opening analysis

http://youtu.be/sqIclb4qsJI

In this opening sequence, still camera shots are shown however the camera still moves at a slow pace horizontally across the image setting a slow and suspenseful start and giving the impression that there is more to come as you wait for the rest of the image to be seen. Simple video shots that are shown also build suspense as the audience becomes curious as why they are being shown this. This could be used to summarise the whole film and conforms to thriller conventions as you never know what to expect. You see a view of the city and different large buildings showing you a commercialised and wealthy area setting the location. It shows different sthots of the city, which is shown to be busy and quite crowded and full of dim colours such as beige. It is shot in low key light which conforms to thriller conventions as builds mysterious atmosphere.

The typography is plain, bold and very large sprawled across building of the city giving impression that the events that are going to happen are important in the lives of a resident in that city and affects others in that city. It is morden, digital and computeristic which could imply that the people involved in this movie are rich and well connected to technology and the modern world showing.

At the end of the opening, a woman walking down a crowded street in a hurry is seen which introduces the audience to a main characters. She is wearing expensive sunglasses and a large fur rimmed coat which implies she has money and status.

YSL advert analysis

This advert has the typical conventions of a perfume advert.

It has a top model and widley respected model in the fashion industry called Coco Rocha, she is a conventionally beautiful women but has a distinctive look unlike other girls which makes her memorable and therefore the advert memorable, tis makes her have equally both high fashion AND commercial appeal with the high fashion which women aspire to look like but comercial enough that woman can relate to her. Also using a women of her status will increase the popularity of the perfume and her following will be more aware of the perfume which they may not have been before makig it open to more potential costumers. The model's black suit shows that she is a sophisticated women with high power and status and will appeal to such women ambitions. The dark suit also contrats with the light backgorund and her skin. Her bright fuschia/scarlet lipstick gives her a sex appeal alonmg with the bare chest and cleavage that shows so the whole look and feel of Elle is for the "sexy, sophisticated woman".

To keep in theme with the model, the background appears to be full of backlights which looks as if it is set in a studio or a catwalk which makes the perfume look high fashion. This will appeal to any one who is interested in fashion and wants to feel more fashionable and high class. It lightens up the whole picture giving a fresh, bright look that illumintes the model propelling her into the focus of the viewer.

The typography is feminine, sleek and sophisticated in illuminited in front of the model so viewers know what the advert is for
